Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the questions we hear most often. If something isn't covered below, we're always happy to help — just reach out.
Every restaurant on HalalBite carries one of three halal status tiers so you always know how its halal claim was established:
- Self-Reported — listed by an owner or community member without additional proof.
- Community Verified — automatically applied once a restaurant has at least 10 community halal votes with 80% or more voting yes.
- Certified — a halal certificate has been uploaded and reviewed by a HalalBite admin.
Tiers can change over time as more information becomes available. We always show the current tier on the restaurant's badge so you can decide what level of assurance you're comfortable with.
If you own or manage a restaurant listed on HalalBite, you can claim it in a few steps:
- Search for your restaurant and open its detail page.
- Start a claim and upload proof of ownership — a business license, recent utility bill, or similar document that shows your name and the restaurant address.
- An admin reviews your submission within 3 business days. We may follow up by email if anything is unclear.
- Once approved, ownership is transferred to your account and your role is promoted to owner, unlocking the owner dashboard with analytics and editing tools.
Reviews are the heart of HalalBite, so we keep the rules simple and transparent:
- One review per user per restaurant. You can edit or delete your review at any time from your profile.
- Each review uses a 1–5 scale across five dimensions: overall, food, halal trust, ambiance, and value.
- Hate speech, harassment, spam, and off-topic content may be hidden by moderators. We aim to keep reviews focused on the dining experience.
You can save any restaurant for later by tapping the bookmark icon on the explore map or on a restaurant's detail page. Your full list of saved places lives on your profile, so you can pull it up whenever you're deciding where to eat next.
HalalBite normalizes cuisine tags through an alias map so that, for example, "Turkish" and "Türk" roll up to the same category. If a cuisine you care about is missing or mapped incorrectly, let us know through the contact form and we'll expand the list.
We only collect what we need to run the service — your profile, reviews, bookmarks, and basic usage analytics. We never sell your data. For the full details, see our privacy policy.
If your question isn't covered here, head over to the contact page and drop us a note. We read every message.
